ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE RECRUITMENT

Hire a SaaS Account Executive

TalentStack recruits Account Executives for high-growth SaaS companies across the UK, Europe and the US, from the first commercial hire through to Strategic AEs managing complex enterprise accounts.

Hiring the right AE is about far more than title. We qualify candidates against the sales motion they have actually succeeded in, including quota attainment, deal size, sales cycle, buyer, ICP, self-generated pipeline and the complexity of the deals they have closed.

SMB Account Executive

SMB selling is about pace and consistency. These AEs typically manage more opportunities, work shorter sales cycles and need to qualify quickly without losing control of pipeline.

We look at how many deals they actually close, where pipeline comes from and whether their performance is repeatable rather than judging them on quota attainment alone.

  • Comfortable with high call and demo volume, often 15 to 25 touches a day
  • Strong at objection handling and closing without a long, multi-stage process
  • Track record hitting quota on shorter, 2 to 4 week sales cycles
  • Resilient, coachable and used to a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
  • Quota and attainment, average contract value, number of deals closed

Mid-Market Account Executive

Mid-Market sits between high-velocity SMB selling and complex Enterprise sales. AEs still need to maintain pipeline volume, but deals typically involve more stakeholders, larger contracts and longer buying processes.

This is often where previous logo recognition becomes misleading, so we dig into the actual sales motion behind performance.

  • Experience selling to multiple stakeholders, not just a single buyer
  • Comfortable running a structured discovery-to-close process over several weeks
  • A track record of both new business and account expansion (job specification dependent)
  • Able to build a business case, not just pitch features
  • Annual quota and attainment
  • Average and largest deal size, sales-cycle length, buyer and ICP

Enterprise Account Executive

A strong Enterprise AE needs more than experience working for an Enterprise SaaS company. We look for evidence they have personally created and closed large, complex opportunities, navigated buying committees, procurement and security, built executive relationships and maintained control across long sales cycles.

These are typically multi-threaded deals into large organisations, with 6 to 12 month buying cycles and quotas built around a smaller number of high-value logos rather than volume. We placed multiple Enterprise AEs into Interact Software as part of a wider commercial build-out following its Castik Capital investment.

  • Track record closing deals with multiple stakeholders and a formal procurement process
  • Comfortable navigating security review, legal and multi-department sign-off
  • Experience managing a smaller, high-value named account list rather than a high-volume pipeline
  • Consultative, multi-threaded selling rather than single-thread, single-call closes
  • Enterprise quota and attainment, MEDDPICC or equivalent methodology

Strategic Account Executive

Strategic AEs typically own fewer accounts but significantly greater complexity and revenue potential.

The role is often as much about account strategy as closing. They need to build senior relationships, navigate large organisations and identify opportunities across teams, business units and geographies.

  • Experience owning a named account list rather than an open territory
  • A track record of multi-year account growth, not just an initial close
  • Executive-level relationship building across a client's organisation
  • Comfortable with long, sometimes 9 to 12 month, strategic sales cycles
  • Named-account ownership, seven-figure or multi-year deals
  • New-logo and expansion revenue, C-suite relationships, complex account planning

Founding Account Executive

Founding AEs need to do more than close. They are often joining before there is a proven playbook, established outbound motion or dedicated sales support.

The strongest profiles can create pipeline, run discovery, test messaging, close early customers and use what they learn to help shape the sales process.

  • Comfortable selling without a mature playbook, pricing model or case study library
  • Happy contributing to positioning, messaging and pricing feedback, not just running a script
  • Founder-level trust, this hire typically reports directly to the CEO or Head of Sales
  • A track record of early-stage or 0-to-1 selling, not just executing an existing motion
  • Ability to turn customer feedback into repeatable process
  • Comfort operating without heavy SDR or marketing support

Why TalentStack

Why SaaS companies use TalentStack to hire Account Executives

Built around your sales motion

A £20k ACV SMB seller and an Enterprise AE closing six or seven-figure deals are not interchangeable. We map the search around the motion, buyer, deal size and stage you actually need.

Qualify beyond attainment

120% of quota tells us very little on its own. We dig into deal sizes, sales cycles, pipeline source, number of wins, buyer, ICP and the candidate's personal contribution before they reach your shortlist.

Off-market access

Many of the strongest Account Executives aren't actively applying for jobs. We identify people succeeding inside relevant sales motions and approach them directly.

Proof in the market

We've placed Account Executives with some of the biggest names in SaaS, as well as ambitious start-ups and scale-ups. We understand the difference between someone who can genuinely thrive in a scrappy environment and someone who simply talks a good game in an interview.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire an Account Executive through TalentStack?
Our average time to fill across AE searches is 17 days from brief to signed offer, though Strategic and Enterprise searches with senior, in-demand candidates can run longer.
What's the difference between a Founding AE and an SMB AE?
Both often work shorter, simpler deal cycles, but a Founding AE is building the playbook itself, pricing, positioning, even the pitch, with no established process to lean on. An SMB AE executes inside a motion someone else has already defined.
Which AE segment should a Seed or Series A company hire first?
Almost always a Founding AE, occasionally an SMB profile if the deal cycle and price point are already well understood. Enterprise and Strategic AEs need infrastructure, case studies, security documentation, a support function, that most early-stage businesses haven't built yet.
What's the difference between an Enterprise and a Strategic AE?
Enterprise AEs run a portfolio of large, complex deals through procurement and multi-stakeholder buying committees. Strategic AEs typically own a much smaller, named list of your biggest accounts, often in the single digits, with a remit built around multi-year expansion rather than closing new logos.
Do you work on contingent or retained AE searches?
Both. We offer contingent, exclusive and retained options depending on urgency, seniority and how hard-to-find the profile is.
