Specialist GTM & SaaS Recruitment

Hire a CSM or Account Manager

Customer Success and Account Management hires protect and grow the revenue you've already won. TalentStack recruits both for SaaS businesses across the UK, Europe and the US.

We recruit for retention and expansion skills specifically, not a generic account management background, and we're clear on where a CSM's remit ends and an Account Manager's quota begins. For CS leadership hires, see our GTM Leadership page.

Customer Success Manager

A CSM joining an established book of accounts, focused on renewal, expansion and proactive account management rather than building the function from scratch. We placed Max Edgson as CSM at FromCounsel alongside a Senior AE hire.

  • Track record against renewal and expansion targets, not just satisfaction scores
  • Proactive account management style, spotting risk before a customer raises it
  • Comfortable owning a defined book of accounts within an existing CS playbook
  • Experience handling escalations without losing the relationship

Founding CSM

Your first Customer Success hire, brought in once founder-led support stops scaling, often defining the CS playbook as well as running it.

  • Comfortable building onboarding, renewal and QBR process from scratch
  • Happy being a generalist across support, onboarding and account growth before the function specialises
  • Reports directly to a founder or Head of Sales in most early-stage businesses
  • A track record of early-stage CS, not just executing inside an established team

Account Manager

A distinct hire from both a CSM and a net-new AE: Account Managers own commercial renewal and expansion revenue on an existing book of accounts, quota-carrying rather than just relationship management.

  • Track record against a real renewal or expansion quota, not just relationship strength
  • Comfortable owning the pricing and negotiation conversation CSMs often aren't set up for
  • Experience with upsell and cross-sell on an existing customer base as ARR scales
  • Clear on how this role differs from both CSM and new-business AE, and where those lines sit at your business

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a Founding CSM and a CSM joining an established team?
A Founding CSM defines onboarding, renewal and QBR process from nothing and is often a generalist across support and account growth. A CSM joining an established team steps into a working playbook and a defined book of accounts.
How do you tell a CSM who's good at relationships from one who actually moves renewal numbers?
We ask for specific outcomes on specific accounts, a renewal saved, an expansion closed, how they handled a named at-risk customer, rather than general tenure or satisfaction anecdotes.
Do you place both CSMs and CS leadership roles?
Individual contributor CSMs on this page. For VP Customer Success or Head of CS, see our GTM Leadership page.
What's the difference between a CSM and an Account Manager?
A CSM is typically measured on product adoption and health scores. An Account Manager carries a commercial renewal or expansion quota. See the Account Manager section on this page if that's the quota-carrying profile you need.
Why would we hire an Account Manager instead of asking our CSMs to handle renewals?
Renewal and expansion conversations require comfort with pricing, negotiation and commercial pushback, skills that don't always overlap with what makes a strong CSM. Splitting the roles usually shows up directly in NRR once the business is large enough to justify it.
